ewan mcgregorWhile there are plenty of "Star Wars" films already scheduled to keep us busy for the next several years, we know that more or planned after that.

Ewan McGregor is interested in seeing more of Obi-Wan Kenobi's story become part of that plan. The actor has previously spoken about a willingness to return to the role that he and Sir Alec Guinness shared, and McGregor thinks now would be just about the perfect time to do it.

"I've always thought there was a story to tell between my last one and Alec Guinness' first one. It would be fun to film that story now I'm older. I'd be the right age. I'm forty-five, Alec Guinness was what, sixty? I could do two of them."

For the record, Alec Guinness was 63 when he filmed the original "Star Wars: A New Hope." Those extra few years might be necessary as any planned Obi-Wan movie would be hitting the screen before 2020 at the absolute earliest. This would put Ewan McGregor closer to 50 than 45 while making it. Still, he's not wrong. With it now being about a decade and a half since McGregor played the role in the prequels, he's the perfect age to play Obi-Wan at a point about midway through the gap between "Episode III" and "IV."

In Ewan McGregor's comments to Premiere, translated by Den of Geek, it sounds like he'd be up to doing two movies, although, let's face it, if Disney and Lucasfilm were planning to do more than one movie, they'd almost certainly be planning for a trilogy. We've heard rumors now and again that a trilogy is exactly what Lucasfilm has been considering for the character, although McGregor says he's never actually had any conversations about reprising the role, so if there is any truth to the rumors, the conversations have never left the office.

Of course, the question becomes, what would you make an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie about? The end of "Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith" leaves the character on Tatooine, ostensibly watching over the infant Luke Skywalker and basically just in hiding from the growing Empire. Within the context of the films, there isn't a lot of reason for Obi-Wan to get involved in any major events. Few people even know that Kenobi is alive, much less where to find him. A new film would have to create some crisis that would draw him out, without changing any of the existing mythology. It could certainly be done, but it could be a bit tricky.

Would you like to see one, or more, new Star Wars films that fill in the missing years of Obi-Wan Kenobi? Let us know in the comments below.
