Excellent cosplay, this man has.
At Silicon Valley's first Comic Con last weekend, we ran into a newbie cosplayer who absolutely nailed his Yoda costume. Chris Figone, a business systems analysis manager at technology company Cisco, who happens to be a little person, came to the Con dressed in brown and white robes, green hands, and a latex mask in the Jedi Master's likeness.
The cosplay in total cost between $1,200 and $1,300 — a figure he did not enjoy sharing in front of his wife.
To create the elaborate look, Figone drove down to Los Angeles where custom mask and prop maker Lubatti Designs Unlimited is located.
They made molds of his face, hands, and feet, and cast latex pieces from the molds. The clothes were made by a local seamstress. Figone trimmed a wooden cane he bought online.
"It's been about a five-year project since it took a few years to connect all the parts," Figone tells Tech Insider in an email, "and get the nerve to actually dress up in it."
For the lifelong "Star Wars" fan, cosplaying as Yoda was a no-brainer.
"I think it goes back to Halloween which has always been my favorite holiday. My mom used to make my own customs like E.T., Ewok, and Jawa [from the 'Star Wars' universe]," Figone says.
"Being a little person, I could never buy off-the-shelf costumes because they never fit right," he continues. "So my mom used her sewing machine and ingenuity to build me cool costumes. So that's probably rubbed off on me a lot."
We have to agree. In the words of the Jedi Master, "Size matters not."
